Sometimes I think my crappy quilting might have more to do with my crappy pressing.
While wasting time on the internet I came across this article regarding the merits of pressing one's seams open for all quilts...not just the one block wonders.

I usually press to one side although sometimes it makes more sense to open. One advantage to pressing to one side is that the seem doesn't become an escape hatch for batting over time. Another is that I also like the way seems lock when joining pieces together when I have pressed to one side.
